Amelia
She is sentenced to death
Ribbons of steam breath
Streams out with contempt and hate
Because she took a mate
And born a child
She is forever reviled
It’s deemed a sin the cry
From the towers on high
Decreeing it’s God’s will
That they must fulfil
God’s not that cruel
They discredit a good religion
By creating a mass of confusion
About what’s right and wrong
Where does forgiveness belong
In this long sad song
Where did human rights go
When Amelia needed it so
Amelia my song is a cry for you
I cannot save you what can I do
What a miserable life
Caught up in powerful strife
Having a child without being his wife
Amelia, symbol of woman’s oppression
Exploitation, subjugation and man’s obsession
When will this albatross shrivel and die
Freeing woman’s wings to fly high.
