Today is Louis Riel Day a brand new holiday in Winnipeg and I spent the day cleaning, sorting and reading old letters and preparing for work tomorrow. It is a lazy day and I totally enjoyed myself.
I got rid of a lot of stuff. Have you ever gotten rid of stuff that have been lying like an albatross around your neck? I am sure you have and when you pack them up and say to them you are out of here and put them in boxes marked “Canadian Diabetes” “Salivation Army” or some other charity, how do you feel? I am sure you feel like a weight has just been taken off you and you begin to feel lighter, happier and more focused. This is nothing new. The pundits of organizing skills and new aggey philosophies have been telling us this all along. We don’t really listen well but it works. We accumulate too much stuff in North America. There is a need to lighten ourselves to help us live fully. I do not mean losing weight though that will not hurt. We need to get rid of stuff, stop buying what we do not need or for every new thing we buy we give away something.
Keep your surroundings clutter free with only the things that make you feel happy, or lighter. If you have anything around you that does not add your lightness, get rid of it, sell it on ebay or just burn it if you feel it is too personal to give away. Just get it out of your space. Live fully my friends, life is short and could be so sweet and meaningful if we stop carrying unnecessary burdens.
