What makes a man turn on his daughter the way the Austrian father turned on his daughter by entrapping her, fathering her children and kept her in dark cell for 24 years.
It sound so unreal that most of us have a hard time believing this is true. A father is supposed to care and protect his child not to harm and rape her.
There are standards to being human and not everyone who walks on two feet and look like a human being is one of us. To be human means to walk in the spirit of the divine, to have some level of conscience and know where the boundaries of civility lie. This father did not appear to have any of these characteristics.
We all ask why and how? Unfortunately, I have to tell you that there are diabolic forces in the universe that constantly compete with the good forces. These forces appear to flourish in certain conditions. Among those conditions is a weak mind, a mind not developed by the practice of virtues. Virtues that are handed down by the Creator, the Spirit of the Universe the Great Spirit, God. When we practice virtues, we strengthen our spirit, the more we understand ourselves and able to recognize what is real from what is not real, what is pleasure from what is not pleasure and what is right from what is wrong.
As human beings we cannot do everything for and by ourselves, we need help from our Creator, we need prayers and meditations to help us stay focused and strong; we need to occupy our minds with good thoughts so that the bad thoughts do not have room to breathe. Light and darkness do not dwell in the same space and where there is light there can be no darkness. In other words darkness is the absence of light.
Perhaps as human being we need to reconnect to our Source of Being and to humble ourselves before God if we want to avoid these awful things.
People do bad things because they feel they lack something in their lives. Sometimes they do not know what it is they lack but they feel inadequate and to compensate for that they go out and kill, engage in addictive sex, drink alcohol or engage in drugs, some even harm themselves in order to feel something. These are illnesses of the mind and an illness of the spirit that requires spiritual remedy.
We need to return to our spiritual traditions. In this modern age, mankind has strayed far from our roots. We feel we do not need religion or God because we have science.
Science and religion have to go hand in hand; one deals with the flesh and the other with the spirit and in order to have balance in our lives we must give equal attention to both.
