In these hard economic times, some people say that things are looking really glum. They apply for job and rarely get called for an interview even though they are well qualified.
What’s holding you back, my friend? The Great Spirit of the Universe or God always takes care of those who depend on him and trust Her that their needs will be met. As Joel Osteen said in one of his Sunday messages of hope, there is always Sunday is coming. Do not despair about a job or worry – worrying brings on more negativity and negativity begets negativity and as soon as you approach the interviewer all he or she can see in you is your desperation and your negative energy even though you may try to hide it. Having real confidence – not fake – is one of the keys to success and here are a few tips you can use to increase your chances of success
1. Know what you are worth and know what you know.
2. Know what are your strengths, your weaknesses and what needs improving. These are questions that always come up in interviews. Many people are afraid to admit to weakness but that could be your strength in an interview e.g. of weakness could be workaholic; inability to balance work and home life.
3. Be careful of what you say and write about on social networking sites, make surethat they are in sync with your values and your personal integrity. Careless words could come back to bite you;
4. Emails can also be damaging. Do not hit reply-all and send jokes or funny itemsto friends – a potential employer can be among that group and the particular item may be unsavory. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can maintain your anonymity on the World Wide Web – there are ears and eyes watching all the time.
6. Find someone you admire and trust to be your mentor and introduce you to potential employers and/or people of influence. The saying is still true, it’s not only what you know but more importantly is who you know.
7. Internship often leads to job so try and find an organization that would allow youto do a stint as an intern even if it is without pay – this can open doors.
8. Believe in yourself and your abilities and trust in the Great Spirit.
Good luck.
